A shoulder (16) extends radially outwards and fits on the upper edge of a membrane wall (14). The outer geometry of the shoulder is designed so as to be used only in a preset mounting position in a membrane retaining device. The shoulder runs around the upper edge of the membrane wall like a ringed collar. The outer geometry of the shoulder is not symmetrical. An independent claim is also included for an ultrasonic sensor with a casing, sensor electronics, a membrane retaining device and a pot-shaped membrane.
