<p>A final drive unit 10 for a motor vehicle includes a carrier housing 11 integrally formed with a final drive housing 12 in which lubricating oil is stored. Pinion drive shaft 14 is rotatably supported in the final drive housing 12 by a pair of bearings 18, 20 which are supplied with lubricating oil by a oil supply passage 30 having an opening 32 in communication with a cavity 31 in the carrier housing 11. A baffle member 40 is mounted in the carrier housing 11 adjacent to the supply opening 32 of the oil supply passage 30. The baffle member 40 includes a baffle wall 42 which covers a lower portion of the oil supply passage 30 and maintains a portion of the lubricating oil in the oil supply passage 30 so as to permit the lubricating oil to adequately lubricate the bearings 18, 20 even when the motor vehicle is tilted to a maximum angle of inclination. A deflector lip (44, fig 5) provided on the baffle member 40 deflects lubricating oil axially outward from ring gear 8 towards the supply opening 32.</p> |
