The man machine interface unit on the dashboard of an automobile has an output stage (11). An input device has a selector wheel (131) and a push button (132). The output unit is a two stage display with one stage having general functions (F) and the other having personal functions (P). The functions are selected by turning the selector and pressing the push button.
