PURPOSE: An electric power steering system is provided to improve the steering efficiency by absorbing the clearance of a rack shaft. CONSTITUTION: A rack shaft(2) having two rack gears(20a,20b) are embedded in a rack housing. The rack housing is divided to a first housing(1a) and a second housing(2a). Flanges(10a,10b) are formed in the ends of the first and the second housings to be combined each other through a bolt(B). In installing the rack shaft inside the rack housing, the processing tolerance is generated by gearing the rack gears with pinion shafts(4a,4b). The clearance of the rack shaft by the processing tolerance is absorbed by combining the separated rack housings. Therefore, the steering efficiency is improved.
