PURPOSE: A method for extracting a boundary value of an image is provided to comprise an initial boundary value setup step of receiving image data and setting an initial boundary value, and an active contour step of obtaining a final boundary value by applying the initial boundary value to an active contour algorithm, thereby automating the setup of the initial boundary value with reliability. CONSTITUTION: In an initial boundary setup step(210), image data is received and an initial boundary value is set by using an STS(Statistical Threshold Selection) method. In an active contour step(220), the initial boundary value is applied to an active contour algorithm to obtain a final boundary value. The initial boundary value setup step(210) consists of an STS step(212) for setting a threshold value by receiving the image data, an image segmenting step(214) for segmenting images into an object and a background, and a binary boundary value extracting step(216) for extracting the initial boundary value from the segmented images.
