PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving information between a main body and a portable unit in a cordless phone is provided to increase service quality and added value by enabling processed data to be transmitted and received mutually between a main body and a portable unit. CONSTITUTION: In case that processed data to be mutually updated at a main body or a portable unit exist(410), the main body or the portable unit confirms whether the user sets up an automatic transmission function for the processed data(412). If the user sets up the automatic transmission function, the main body or the portable unit establishes a transport channel(414) and transmits a processed data packet(416). Then the main body or the portable unit waits for a response for the transmitted packet for preset time(418). If there is no response for the transmitted packet, the main body or the portable unit transmits the processed data packet again.
