A CRF(1) (corticotropin releasing factor) receptor antagonist can be used in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD). Also disclosed is an in vitro method for the diagnosis of NUD comprises identifying in a subject a dysfunction of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) receptors characterized by the subject's response to CRH-induced adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production by estimating an increased level of ACTH in a sample of blood or a blood fraction obtained from the subject relative to a control.
