Samples (10) are suspended on rods (41) from integral balances (38) able to make continuous very high precision weight measurements. The samples which are located within a quartz cylinder (9) are very quickly heated by halogen lamps (11) using elliptical focussing. Gas may be supplied (28) to the sample chamber or evacuated (31) from it and a seal to the weighing chamber is supplied by labyrinth plates (34,36,37). An Independent claim is also included for : Thermogravimetry equipment which includes an oven with controlled atmosphere and integral high precision weighing with protective confinement.
