A method and apparatus for impingement of fluid onto a moving surface. The apparatus (40) includes an asymmetric slot nozzle (50) having an opening (56) formed between an upstream wall (58) and a downstream wall (59). The nozzle (50) is disposed generally adjacent the surface (26) onto which the fluid is to be impinged forming an impingement distance between each of the walls of the nozzle and the surface. The impingement distance (60) of the upstream wall (58) is greater than the impingement distance (62) of the downstream wall (59) such that at least a portion of the fluid is delivered through the nozzle (50) in a direction that is counter to the machine direction (MB).
