PURPOSE: To provide a rotary air compressor eliminating hunting phenomena causing noises or failures, which has durability and is smoothly operated by a structure of a check valve. CONSTITUTION: This rotary air compressor comprises the check valve 13 of a piston/cylinder structure in an air suction passage 20. The check valve 13 is formed by comprising a valve element 21 free of blocking the air suction passage 20, a valve rod 22 for supporting the valve element 21, a piston 23 mounted on one end of the valve rod 22, a cylinder 24 supporting the piston 23 free of sliding, and a return spring 25 interposed between one end inside the cylinder 24 and the piston 23. A pair of air escape passages 39, 42 for allowing inflow/outflow of air by sliding of the piston 23 is formed on the cylinder 24 and the escape passage 39 on a head side is made a small passage to be a throttle S.
