Methods for concentrating influenza virus grown in a cell culture such that infectivity is retained

Means and methods are provided for the concentration of influenza viruses whilst maintaining infectivity (at least partially), comprising obtaining a virus-containing medium, i.e. a cell cleared supernatant comprising said virus, from culture of cells, and ultrafiltrating it under low shear conditions. In particular, such low shear conditions may be obtained with a hollow fiber, and the filter is preferably designed to have a cut of at 750 KD. Such methods may include further steps that allow for the removal of proteins smaller than 750 KD. The viruses can be then be used for the production of vaccines.
