<p>The invention relates to a method for producing printing dies, wherein at least a surface component is obtained from a line drawing, being partial area of the surface of the die. The ends of this area determine a preset outline, from which, depending on a preset depth of engraving, the trajectory is calculated of the engraving tool, so that to be included within the framework of the preset outline. The engraving tool is guided along the present outline in such a way that the material from the partial surface is removed at the preset depth. The invention also relates to an engraved object, in particular a plate, as a printing die or printing form. The form has at least one recess (28) in the form of a line, applied by engraving, having side walls and bottom. The recess (28) has a substructure (29), being additional information, wherein the width of the substructure (29) is smaller than recess (28) on the surface of the object.
