PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SDH transmission system which is capable of reducing notifications sent to a host apparatus and doing its monitoring smoothly without deteriorating the quality of a transmission line. SOLUTION: A switching unit is controlled through a status transition unit 10. An alarm information 11 of an operation system, an alarm information 12 of a standby system, feed back signals 14 indicating the preceding status, and, for instance, six-bit status signals 15 of status 0 to status 5 are inputted into the status transition unit 10. When the same phenomenon occurs in both the systems within a prescribed span of time, the switching unit is automatically switched to the last status prior to a status in which a change takes place.
