PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that prevents trailing, offset, and the soil of a pressure roller and also prevents a jam caused by separation failure resulting from fixing or a jam caused by wrapping resulting from fixing. SOLUTION: The fixing device has a heating member 16a and a pressure member 16b which form a fixing nip while coming into firm contact with each other. The fixing device fixes a toner image to a recording material under heat and pressure in such a manner that the recording material P with the toner image held to be fixed thereon is held and conveyed in the fixing nip. The fixing device includes: a voltage application means 46 which applies a voltage to at least the heating member or the pressure member; and a means which determines the value of a voltage applied by the voltage application means in accordance with the thickness of the recording material.
