PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester-amide copolymer having excellent biodegradability, excellent physical characteristics exemplified by high strength and high heat resistance, and also having excellent moldability. SOLUTION: The polyester-amide copolymer having≥0.7 dL/g solution viscosity (inherent viscosity) is produced by holding a mixture of an aliphatic polyamide with an aliphatic polyester, which is a ring-opened polymer of a cyclic ester, and the cyclic ester or a cyclic amide at a temperature between the melting point of the polyamide and about 300°C in a heated and melted state so as to form a transparent state to promote an ester-amide exchanging reaction, and carrying out a polycondensation at a temperature lower than the temperature.
