A toothbrush comprises an illuminated brush area using a super- bright light diode (a) in the neck of the toothbrush which illuminates in an inclined direction. Preferably the light diode is operated by a key (b) in the front of the brush and the electricity supply is from three coin batteries (c) in the brush handle.
