METHOD FOR DRIVING PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL, AND PLASMA DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase display quality by eliminating abrupt variation in brightness of an additional image displayed adjacently to an image for aspect ratio conversion.

SOLUTION: When the image which is different in an aspect ratio from a screen is displayed by using an area excluding a portion of the screen, a frame F is replaced with a plurality of 1st subframes SF1 wherein only the area of the screen is made to illuminate and at least one 2nd subframe SF2 wherein only the remaining part of the screen except the area is made to illuminate, and the luminance of the 1st subframes SF1 and the luminance of the 2nd subframe SF2 are independently controlled.
