PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having a high helical twisting power, a liquid crystal composition containing the liquid crystal compound, and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal compound. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal compound is obtained by subjecting a polycyclic natural alcohol having optical activity such as terpenol, borneol, cinchonidine, and quinine and an organic acid having a core structure like a liquid crystal (benzoic acid cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, biphenylcarboxylic acid, p-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, terephthalic acid, 4-n-hexyloxybenzoic acid, 4-n-propylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid, 4'-n-decyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid, cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid and the like) to esterification reaction. This liquid crystal compound has an excellent solubility to a nematic liquid crystal, and when both liquid crystal compounds are mixed, the liquid crystal composition having a high twisting power and an excellent optical resistance is obtained.
