PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data converting method in which the minimum continuous number of times 1 of "0" in a data train after conversion is permitted, and conversion processing can be simplified. SOLUTION: A prescribed 4-bit data is converted to 6-bit data by a conversion table of either of first and second conversion tables (STATE1, STATE2). These tables convert to 6-bit data in which the minimum continuous number of times 1 of a bit "0" between bit "1" and "1" is permitted. The last code of at least one conversion code out of conversion codes in these tables is an inversion bit (*) for suppressing DC. The inversion bit selects "1" or "0" in accordance with conditions.
