PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering gear for a vehicle capable of changing the transmission ratio of a steering angle while maintaining the mechanical direct connection state of a steering handle and a steered wheel. SOLUTION: This steering gear for the vehicle has a column upper connected with the steering handle, a variable steering mechanism changing a transmission ratio on the halfway of a passage of a column lower for driving the steering gear connected with a steered wheel, and a steering control means for controlling the variable steering mechanism. A column upper is composed of a first column upper connected with the steering handle and a second column upper connected with the column lower. The variable steering mechanism is composed of a first ball screw nut spline-connected with the first column upper and a ball screw part whose one end is driven integrally with a motor and is rotated integrally with the second column upper and whose other end is fitted in the first ball screw nut.
