<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that spinning speed can not be enhanced to a prescribed speed or more and optical fiber can not be produced at high efficiency because spinning temperature and the spinning speed should be properly selected in the spinning of the optical fiber having a structural defect. <P>SOLUTION: In a production method of the optical fiber, a quartz system optical fiber preform whose core part contains a germanium dioxide compound is heated and spun and the optical fiber with outer diameter 125μm±3μm is produced. Therein, the optical fiber is produced in such a manner that glass material constituting the region≤50% of the optical fiber outer diameter has an electron density of the uncrosslinked oxidation defect species (Ge(D)-E') of 1×10<SP>12</SP>spins/g or more measured by the electron spin resonance method. Then, even after the optical fiber is exposed to a deuterium atmosphere, the electron spin density of Ge(D)-E measured by the electron spin resonance method is allowed to remain by 1×10<SP>12</SP>spins/g or more in the region of the optical fiber described above. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
