PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which enables the length of a label and the width of a printing tape for use to be easily determined by easily measuring dimensions of a place whereon the label is to be stuck. SOLUTION: The tape printer 1, whereon the printing tapes with a plurality of kinds of widths can be mounted, prints a character string on the mounted printing tape so as to create the label. A scale 31 is detachably attached to a printer body 2 of the tape printer 1. A dimensional division indication part 33 with a dimensional division based on a reference point 32, and a tape-width division indication part 34 with divisions corresponding to the kinds of the widths of the printing tapes are indicated in an orthogonal manner. The label is created by measuring a dimensional area of the place, whereon the label is to be stuck, by means of the indication parts 33 and 34 of the scale 31; and the length and width of the label can be determined.
