The invention relates to a method of annealing continuously-moving sheet metal. The inventive method comprises the heating of the sheet (B), the annealing of the heated sheet, at least one step involving the cooling (C, D) of the annealed sheet and a heat recovery step. According to the invention, the aforementioned heat recovery step consists of: a thermal coupling comprising the circulation (1) of a heat transfer gas between at least one (C) of said at least one cooling steps (C, D) and a step involving the pre-heating (A) of the sheet; a first heat exchange, in the cooling step, between the sheet and the heat transfer gas; and a second heat exchange, in the preheating step, between the sheet and the heat transfer gas, during which the sheet is pre-heated and the heat transfer gas is cooled.
