<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a stable multi-domain structure, and to provide a compensation film having a pattern structure for the omnidirectional viewing angle compensation. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate and a second substrate which are placed opposite to each other and contain a plurality of pixels separated into two domains or more, a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and has different alignment directions at every regions and a first compensation film and a second compensation film which are arranged on the outside surfaces of the first substrate and the second substrate, have an isosceles triangle pattern having a specified angle gradient and have materials having a negative refractive index anisotropy. Thereby, a tilt angle of the compensation film can be controlled by means of the average tilt angle of the liquid crystal layer and the omnidirectional viewing angle can be improved by the effective viewing angle compensation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
