PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding apparatus capable of strengthening adhesion between a paper bundle and a cover especially in a perfect binding. SOLUTION: In the bookbinding apparatus 1 wherein the back face of the paper bundle 100 is coated with an adhesive by integrally moving back and forth an adhesive reservoir 23 and a roller 24 on the lower side of the paper bundle 100 pinched by a pinching means 18, the pinching means 18 consists of the first and the second clamping plates 18a and 18b arranged so as to face each other, and the first clamping plate 18a is fixed and the second clamping plate 18b is movable in the approaching and separating direction to the first clamping plate. The roller 24 is provided with a main body part 24c and a jaw part 24b provided coaxially at the end part of the main body part and with a larger diameter than that of the main body part, and the end edge of the jaw part 24b on the main body side is moved while it is positioned approximately just below the inner contact face of the first clamping plate 18a.
