PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which is miniaturizable and increases the number of sheets to be subjected to reading. SOLUTION: A loader 102 for loading sheets having imagesis disposed in parallel to a housing 103 for housing the sheets carried to an image reader the images on which have been read by an image reader. A movable partition 104 is set between the loader 102 and the housing 103. The partition 104 is shifted in a direction to increase the sheet load quantity of the loader 102 when loading sheets on the loader 102, and then moved in a direction to increase the sheet housing quantity of the housing 103, as the number of sheets having read images increases.
