PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the miniaturization and thickness reduction of a camera zoom lens mounted on a portable telephone etc. SOLUTION: As for the zoom lens provided with a 1st lens group I having a negative refractive power as a whole, a 2nd lens group II having a positive refractive power as a whole, and a 3rd lens group III having a positive refractive power as a whole, a power is varied from a wide angle end to a telephoto end by moving the 2nd lens group from the image field side to the object side, and also, by moving the 3rd lens group to the image field side again after moving the 3rd lens from the image field side to the object side once, and the image field fluctuation due to the variable power is corrected. The 1st lens group is constituted of a single lens 1 having a negative refractive power and a prism 2 for changing the optical path and having a positive refractive power, arranged in this order from the object side. Then, the thickness reduction and miniaturization of the zoom lens can be attained, and the zoom lens suitable to the portable telephone and a portable information terminal is provided.
