A sink unit comprising of the actual sink (1) and the adjacent draining surface can be covered by a rigid rectangular sheet (6a) in order to be used as a worktop or a temporary storage area. A rectangular slot (5a) still facilitates the pouring of a liquid into the hidden sink (1). When the sheet (1) is swiveled into a vertical position to be used as a splash protection or a room partition the tap (4) is guided through the slot (5a).
