<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording paper which shows outstanding suitability for ink jet recording, i.e. ink drying characteristics, print density, appearance by naked eye and the like, besides, high water resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This ink jet recording paper is constituted of at least one undercoat layer containing a pigment and an adhesive, at least one intermediate layer containing a pigment and an adhesive formed on the undercoat layer and a glossy layer containing a pigment and an adhesive formed on the intermediate layer formed on the intermediate layer, in that order on a base material. The pigment of the intermediate layer is a cationic micropigment containing at least one kind selected from among silica, aluminosilicate and alumina with an average primary particle diameter of 3 to 40 nm. The pigment of the glossy layer contains a colloidal silica with an average particle diameter of 3 to 100 m.
