<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of eliminating an unnecessary communication control, thereby reducing the load of a control part. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a first control means which has the function of controlling a main image forming sequence, communicating with a second control means, instructing to turn on/off power supplied to the load, and the function of instructing to detect the state of the load and receiving the result of the detection; and the second control means which has the function of controlling power supplied to the load in the apparatus based on the instruction from the first control means, and the function of detecting the state of the load and transmitting the results of the detection to the first control means. The first control means communicates with the second control means at least one time within a first predetermined period until receiving the detection results of the state of the load after instructing the second control means to detect the state of the load.
