PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier that can be obtained by a simple and a highly precise working process at a low cost and has high thermal resistance usable to various kinds of using environments and using purposes. SOLUTION: This optical amplifier amplifies signal light by propagating pump light to a guide wave part consisting of a resin obtained by ring-closing a polybenzoxazole precursor, which is represented by formula (1) where colorant is dispersed, to make the guide wave part to an excited state and therewith propagating signal light to guide wave part. In formula (1), X is a tetravalent organic group and Y is a divalent organic group, and R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group and n is an integer of 1 to 1,000.
