PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester monofilament which has a high strength and excellent dimensional stability, has effects for reducing scum and knotted filaments, can be woven into high mesh woven fabrics, has a fine fineness, and is suitable for use in screen gauze. SOLUTION: This sheath-core type polyester monofilament for screen gauze is characterized by satisfying the following A to E. (A)≥80% of units constituting the polyester of the core component are produced from polyethylene-2, 6-naphthalate. (B) The intrinsic viscosity of the polyester of the core component is≥0.70, and is higher than the intrinsic viscosity of the polyester of the sheath component, and the difference between their intrinsic viscosities is 0.15 to 0.30. (C) The strength of the polyester monofilament is≥5.5cN/dtex. (D) The running filament frictional coefficient of the polyester monofilament between the filament and a mirror surface is≤0.40. (E) The polyester monofilament has not more than one knotted portion whose diameter is larger by≥10% than the diameter of the monofilament per 100,000 meter of the polyester monofilament in the longitudinal direction.
