PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that power consumption of an entire matrix type display device such as a liquid crystal display increases by always making output voltage variation per unit time fixed to maximum regardless of bit of display data in an output circuit in a gate driver. SOLUTION: The matrix type display device is provided with a liquid crystal display panel which has a plurality of image display elements arranged at respective intersecting points between a plurality of signal lines and a plurality of gate lines arranged in a matrix shape and counter electrodes arranged facing the plurality of image display elements. Further the matrix type display device is provided with a source driver for driving the signal lines and gate drivers 101, 102, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109 for driving the gate lines and / or counter electrodes with output voltage variation per unit time corresponding to display data to be displayed in the liquid crystal display panel.
