PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal circulation type parking device and its operation method capable of performing preliminary operation in every layer in a plurality of layers within a short time in the case there is one tray on a lift with an entry and exit or the like. SOLUTION: The horizontal circulation type parking device is so constituted that circulation transit ways consisting of two rows of horizontal transit ways 1 making cross-feed of trays 4 arranged in lateral rows and a second vertical transit way 2 for making longitudinal-feed of the trays 4 between one end sections of the horizontal transit ways 1 and between the other end sections are arranged in the first to the third layers and, at the same time, that a lift section 3 having a deliverable lift 3a of the trays 4 between predetermined one end sections in the circulation transit ways of the first to the third layers. An empty space for one tray portion is ensured in each of both end sections on one diagonal line of the circular transit ways in every layer of the first to the third layers in a state to set one tray 4 on the lift 3a, and the circulating operation can be separately performed in every layer.
