PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for improving the reproduction quality of video, and its device. SOLUTION: The device for improving the reproduction quality of the video is characterized in that it includes a vertical region existence discriminating part to discriminate whether a boundary (an edge) included in input pixels exists in a vertical region, an oblique line possibility discriminating part to judge whether there is the oblique line possibility of the boundary (the edge) when it is discriminated that the boundary does not exist in the vertical region, a direction discriminating part to discriminate the inclination direction of the oblique line when it is discriminated that there is the oblique line possibility in the boundary, and an interpolation part to calculate an interpolation pixel value for a pixel value of the input pixels by the results of the region discrimination, the oblique line possibility discrimination, and the direction discrimination. The reproduction quality of the progressive scanning video can be improved by acquiring the more natural and softer progressive scanning video by preventing various problems including the color bleeding phenomenon and the stepping phenomenon or the like occurring when the interlaced scanning video is converted to the progressive scanning video.
