A pedal bin (1) comprises a container (2) has an open top end (4), a lid (3) which is pivotably connected to the container (2), and a pedal (7) which is connected to the lid (3) by means of a transmission mechanism (9). As a result of the pedal (7) being depressed, the lid (3) can be pivoted out of a closed position, in which the lid (3) closes off the open top end (4) of the container (2), into an open position, in which the interior of the container (2), is accessible via the open top end (4). According to the invention, there is a resilient element (25) which is prestressed between the pedal (7) and the transmission mechanism (9) for pressing onto the pedal (7) in an at-rest position.
