PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device including a motor-driven actuator for assisting the steering and a transmission device for transmitting the power from the actuator to a column shaft and arranged compactly around the column shaft, capable of reducing the degree of interference with the space around the driver's feet and precluding hindrance of the driving operation. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device includes the motor-driven actuator M for assisting the steering which consists of a linear motor and the transmission device 4 for transmitting the force generated by the actuator M to the column shaft 3 and supported coaxially with the column shaft 3, and the arrangement further includes a moving cylinder 40 to move in the longitudinal direction along the axis with the force transmitted from the motor M and a ball screw mechanism 41 formed on the counter-circumference of the moving cylinder 40 and the column shaft 3 while the constitution remains simple.
