Method for testing the bearing gap between a shaft and a shaft seat for a hydrodynamic bearing, whereby for the test bearing, the shaft is placed in its bearing seat in its operating position and a measurement fluid is passed through the bearing gap. One or more parameters of the gaseous flow through the bearing gap are measured in order to characterize the bearing gap. An Independent claim is made for a device for testing a bearing gap of a hydrodynamic bearing between a shaft and its housing seat.
