<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely update a unit key. <P>SOLUTION: A unit key 301 is preliminarily registered in the flash memory 54 of a fingerprint collation device in the manufacturing by a manufacturer. When the unit key 301 is changed, the CPU of the fingerprint collation device accepts a new unit key inputted by a manager and updates the unit key after waiting for 5 seconds. Otherwise, when the fingerprint of an operator is collated with the preliminarily registered fingerprint template 501 of a special index 500, and the both are matched, the change of the preliminarily registered unit key 301 to the new unit key is permitted.
