PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery composed by improving discharge capacity and by reducing the incidence rate of electrolyte leakage. SOLUTION: This battery is provided with: a tubular positive electrode mix 10 disposed in the inside surface of a power generation element storage vessel 9; a bag-like separator 11 disposed in a hollow part of the mix 10; a negative electrode gel 12 stored in the separator 11, and containing a negative electrode active material and an aqueous electrolyte; and a hydrogen gas transmitting film 13 disposed on an opening of the storage vessel 9, having a gas transmission coefficient, in He gas at 30°C, in a range of 2×10<SP>-6</SP>to 10,000×10<SP>-6</SP>[cm<SP>3</SP>(STP) cm/(sec cm<SP>3</SP>cm Hg)] and a water repellency above 2 kPa.
