PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic braking apparatus for achieving automatic braking more reliably according to the relative relationship with a front vehicle or obstacles and the operation state of an own automobile. SOLUTION: The operation conditions of automatic braking is switched, based on the estimated time to the collision with a front vehicle or obstacles, or the relative distance to the front vehicle or obstacles. Further, if a time margin until the collision is enough, the brake operation is detected and then automatic braking is operated. When the margin is small, accelerator operation is detected and automatic braking is operated. When the margin is extremely small, automatic braking is operated regardless of the operation state of the automobile, thus automatic braking is operated more reliably by using operation conditions according to the condition for avoiding or reducing collision even if the margin until the collision is small.
