PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the power consumption of a liquid crystal panel in standby mode to solve a problem in which a conventional liquid crystal panel consumes electric power to excess. SOLUTION: (a) A 1st switch 12 and a 3rd switch 54 are turned on and a 2nd switch 52 and a 4th switch 56 are turned off to transmit data sent from a data line 18 to a liquid crystal capacitor 16 and a storage capacitor 14. (b) The 1st switch 12 and 3rd switch 54 are turned off and the 2nd switch 52 and 4th switch 56 are turned on to output a voltage held in the storage capacitor 14 to a comparator 58, which compares it with a reference voltage 70 and outputs a control signal to a selecting circuit 60 according to the comparison result.
