PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 5-[(1Z,2E)-2-methyl-3-phenyl-2-propenylidene]-4-oxo-2-thioxo-3-thiazolidineacetic acid in a uniform crystal form in high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the B-type crystal of 5-[(1Z,2E)-2-methyl-3-phenyl-2-propenylidene]-4-oxo-2-thioxo-3-thiazolidineacetic acid of the formula (I) comprises subjecting 5-[(1Z,2E)-2-methyl-3-phenyl-2-propenylidene]-4-oxo-2-thioxo-3-thiazolidineacetic acid to recrystallization treatment using at least one solvent selected from a (hydrous) chain ether solvent, cyclic ether solvent, amide-containing solvent, phosphoric acid amide solvent, sulfur-containing solvent, nitrile solvent, ester solvent, ketone solvent, carbonic ester solvent and carboxylic acid solvent either singly, or its (their) combination with at least one solvent selected from a (hydrous) straight-chain alkane solvent, cyclic alkane solvent, chain ether solvent, lower alcohol solvent, nitrile solvent, ketone solvent, aromatic carbocyclic solvent, ester solvent and carbonic ester solvent.
