PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a compound having at least two ester groups in the molecule, especially an azoledicarboxylic acid diester, useful as a photographic coupler, a photographic additive, a drug, a dye, an agricultural chemical, or an intermediate therefor inexpensively and simply in high yields. SOLUTION: The method for producing the compound having at least two alkoxycarbonyl groups in the molecule comprises esterifying a compound having at least two carboxyl groups and alcohols in the presence of sulfuric acid and a dehydrating agent.
