The ring (21) fits onto the user's thumb, and forms part of a tool (1) to drag thin foils from a book onto a prepared surface which is to be covered. The ring acts as a holder (20) for a cushion (10) consisting of an elongated body (11) parallel to the axis of the bore through the ring. The cushion is attached to a thickened (22) portion of the ring. The part of the cushion coming in contact with the foil is a layer (12) with a high coefficient of friction.
