The present invention provides a metal material comprising a metal matrix, in which a low melting point metal phase formed from Sn and at least one of Bi and Pb is dispersed in the form of particles, exhibiting excellent machinability irrespective of processing conditions, particularly when applied to a metal material for cutting work, most suitably to a copper alloy for cutting work, being capable of satisfying the Pb elution control of 0.01 mg/l or less, and being advantageous in terms of production cost. The present invention further provides a method for manufacturing the metal material. The metal matrix preferably contains low melting point metal particles in a particle number concentration of 10<4>/mm<3> or more and the low melting point metal phase in a volume percentage of 0.35-10%. |
