摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a driving circuit at the periphery of a pixel needs to have many current sources and input of half-tones close to black is apt to be incomplete in a method of determining the value of a current supplied to an EL element by inputting a current proportional to a video signal to a pixel. <P>SOLUTION: Used is a system which supplies electric charges temporarily accumulated in a capacitive element to the EL element to luminesce. The amount of electric charges supplied from the capacitive element to the EL element per unit time is made proportional to the luminance of emitted light to determine the light emission luminance of the EL element. The amount of electric charges accumulated in the capacitive element is proportional to a voltage applied to the capacitive element. Consequently, the use of the capacitive element makes it possible to convert the proportionality relationship between the light emission luminance and the current value of the EL element into the proportionality relationship between the light emission luminance and voltage value.
