The object of this invention is to provide a reinforcing bar coupler coupling reinforcing bars in a mechanical coupling method, thus ensuring prompt and easy coupling operation and allowing the reinforcing bars to be firmly coupled to each other. The reinforcing bar coupler includes a cylindrical sleeve. The sleeve is opened at a surface thereof, and has a first seating groove on an inner surface thereof so that ends of reinforcing bars are seated therein, and a pair of first locking parts each having a first slant surface. A cover unit has a second seating groove on a surface thereof to cover the reinforcing bars seated in the first seating groove of the sleeve. A wedge has a pair of second locking parts each having a second slant surface, and is fitted into the sleeve to wedge the cover unit and the reinforcing bars in the sleeve.
