<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IC card reader capable of making a communication by electrically and continuously switching contact communication and non-contact communication without need of a contact point driving device, a control circuit, a signal line, software and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The IC card reader is provided with an IC card side contact point, a contact communication means transferring data through a contactable contact terminal, a non-contact communication means 14 transferring data without contact with an IC card-side antenna and a control circuit 10 controlling the contact communication means. The reader also has a relay 28 cutting signal lines 23 and 25 connected to the contact terminal of the control circuit 10 in a state where the IC card-side contact point is brought into contact with the contact terminal. A diode inhibiting flow-in of a current from ground to the contact terminal is connected between the contact terminal connected to ground and ground.
