<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To makeit possible to keep the reading precision of given identification information constant and confirm the matching of printed matters by using the identification information after the printed matters different in type are selectively overlapped by the identification information. <P>SOLUTION: The identification information 3 for identifying the printed matters is given to the printed matter by forming a plurality of holes 5 by a pattern based on identification information by irradiation of a laser beam. For detecting identification information 3, a region to which identification information 3 is given is irradiated with light, and the transmission pattern where light transmits the printed matter is detected.
